Dear Sirs: With the rise in popularity of the Smith and Wesson Military and Police model pistols, I am very surprised and quite a bit disappointed to not be able to find aftermarket barrels, parts and accessories for these fine pistols like one might expect for other brands and models. It is almost like there is a bias against the Smith and Wesson brand. While in the early 90's, just before the advent of the Glock, the third generation S&W pistols were quite popular. These pistols had robust luster and were built like tanks, to stand up to full power 10mm loads. The public eventually settled on the polymere frame design, Smith and Wesson almost went out of business, until in recent years they also compromised on the polymere framed guns with the Sigma's and the M&P's. It is interesting that people consider S&W to be "the new kids on the block," even though the company is nearly 140 years old, and had three generations of successful auto pistol designs at the beginning of the 1990's. Now its almost as if S&W is being treated like it has leprocy. My main point is, S&W always has produced pistols of great quality. Now that they have ventured competitively into the polymere market, I'm quite certain that S&W will meet or exceed the performance of other brands. Being that S&W has been a mainstay in American culture, and as an American company, I would hope that aftermarket manufacturers and companies will realize that S&W is a company deserving of equal respect, and will make aftermarket products, parts, magazines, holsters and barrels for these fine pistols.
