XD(m) 9mm
by: michigantom
First, to get it out of the way, I can't compare it to a Glock. Glocks are exceptional weapons, but I do not like the grip angle so I do not own one. I traded a used Kimber 1911 9mm which was a good gun but picky about the ammo I used. Anything other than standard ball or round nose ammo would lead to feed failures. Also, the Kimber only had a 10 round capacity.
I purposely took the ammo that would not feed in the Kimber 9mm for testing. After 50 rounds of standard ball ammo, I ran 50 rounds of hollow point and 50 more of truncated cone bullets through the XDm. Not one failure to feed or eject and the slide always locked back after the last round. So far, so good...
As for accuracy, at 10 yrds I was more concerned with learning the XDm's trigger as I am used to single action 1911's (yes I have more than one). I have a tendency to not correctly line up the sights, sometimes keeping the front site a bit high compared to the rear sights. this results in shots that are high...no big surprise there. Same thing happened with the XDm. When i did level the sights, it blew a nice big 3" hole through the middle of the target. 3" doesnt seem very good to bullseye oriented shooters, but it works for me. I'm looking for reliability and consistency not 1" at 25 yards. The sights are standard white dots and I could see them well at the indoor range.
The trigger is decent for something that is not a 1911. Compared to the standard XD I fired last week, Im not sure there is much of a difference, but I don't have enough trigger time on either to make that call. I'm also still deciding which grip insert I like the best. Again, more shooting will tell.
150 rounds without a hitch isnt much, but it was with ammo that had been an issue in another gun. All in all, I like it. I still prefer the 1911 platform in 45acp, but this is shaping up to be a good, reliable, fun to shoot 9mm

Springfield XDM 40
by: Droopy
I recently just purchased a XDM - 40 and took it to the range for the first time on 7/5/08. I was very impressed on the accuracy on this weapon. Shot 200 rounds of Winchester 40 SW without no jams or malfunctions and the match barrel on the XDM kept the rounds in the target in a 1-2 inch diameter at about 50 ft. Recoil was good and the field striping to break down and re-assembile for cleaning was very easy.3 interchangeable hand grips to fit your hand with non slipping groves in the grip for better control.Springfield Armory has a winner on this one. Try it and buy it. You will be glad you did.
